About Us...

LEO LAGASSE, M.D., President and Co-founder, Medicine For Humanity and Professor Emeritus, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, The David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Dr. Lagasse is a nationally renowned leader and surgeon in the treatment of gynecologic cancers. He is an expert in all gynecologic cancers and specializes in uterine preservation and proactive management for recurrent ovarian cancer. Dr. Lagasse attended medical school at the University of Virginia and completed his Internship and Residency at UCLA. He has been honored extensively, including the formation of the Leo. D. Lagasse, M.D. Society, established by former Gynecologic Oncology Fellows in 1991. Since 1995 he has provided visionary and inspired leadership in bringing medical education and medical care to women in underserved nations.

GAUTUM CHAUDHURI, M.D., PH.D. Executive Chair, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Chaudhuri graduated with an M.D. from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, India and then completed a Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of London under the mentorship of Nobel laureate, Sir John Vane. He then completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology from State University of New York at Buffalo. He moved to UCLA where he completed his subspecialty fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. Following that, he joined the faculty at UCLA where he currently holds a joint appointment as Professor in the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Molecular and Medical Pharmacology. Dr. Chaudhuri is dedicated to improving women’s health care throughout the world and is actively collaborating with Medicine for Humanity to bring medical education to underserved nations.
