“For me, Medicine for Humanity represents social justice. I feel like it is a basic obligation to speak up on behalf of those who have been silenced, ignored, and doubted for so long. That is why I am so grateful to be able to advocate for women with fistula through Medicine for Humanity. The women’s stories have deeply changed the way I look at my life and how I wish to live in this world. MFH shows me how we can tangibly affect change. Being part of an organization that truly practices a bilateral, sustainable international partnership where the needs and wellbeings of women with fistula take precedent is a tremendous privilege.”

Pooja is responsible for maintaining Medicine for Humanity’s social media presence and building its storytelling portfolio. As a volunteer on two consecutive MFH trips to Uganda, Pooja has captured and shared the true stories of women living with fistula through extensive interviews as well as photography and videography. Pooja became involved with MFH while she was an undergraduate at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she recently completed her B.S. in Psychobiology and minor in French. Pooja has experience volunteering both internationally and domestically, and has a strong background in global health and research. Pooja currently lives in Los Angeles, CA, and will be applying to medical school.
